Op de technische kwaliteiten van blues-rock-icoon Joe Bonamassa en zijn band valt weinig af te dingen. De muzikanten spelen op de dubbel-cd Beacon Theatre: Live from New York met de precisie van een Zwitsers uurwerk. Wel raken de emotionele nuances halverwege wat in de verdrukking, terwijl de gastoptredens van Paul Rodgers, John Hiatt en Beth Hart er helaas maar al te zeer aan herinneren dat Bonamassa's vocalen niet zijn forte zijn. Toch speelt Bonamassa met overgave voor een publiek dat overduidelijk uit zijn hand eet. En als je de mening bent toegedaan dat Bonamassa's songs live beter tot hun recht komen dan in de studio, kom je met deze cd ruimschoots aan je trekken in afwachting van een live-tour van de gitaargigant.
