Tech N9ne seems untouchable. After a 30-year-long career and around 25 albums, he still pulses with the same fury as in the early days, and he shows the same love of staccato flows and technical wizardry. ASIN9NE is a demonstration of the artist's skills but also of his trademark sound: martial, with plenty of synths to the point of sounding robotic, with influences from the Three 6 Mafia or the New York tones of Swizz Beatz. Producer Wyshmaker, a mainstay of Tech N9ne's aesthetic, is once again at the helm for this album. The only difference is that Tech N9ne is starting to look back. Amidst the robotic vocals of Kickiter, the stadium rock influences of The Herder, or the darkness of Heightened, there is a sense of redemption. "They running, I'm gunning for God", he says on Too Good, featuring Lil Wayne and singer Mumu Fresh. It's as if, after a lifetime spent around gangsters, spending money, he realised that you've got to put something aside for yourself for a rainy day. But let's hope the rain is a long time coming.
