Anastasis, het Dead Can Dance reüniealbum, en de eerste opname van nieuw materiaal sinds Spiritchaser (1996), is meer een toer door veel van de band zijn geschiedenis dan een oefening in het leveren van iets nieuws. De muzikale principes van Anastasis zijn afkomstig uit oost-mediterrane bronnen (voornamelijk Griekenland en Turkse folk), en ook wat uit verscheidene Noord-Afrikaanse landen. Wat meteen opvalt is de stem van Brendan Perry, deze is dieper, rijker en meer ingehouden, en daardoor krachtiger. Lisa Gerrards direct herkenbare instrument, de Yangqin, schijnt door op “Agape,” “Kiko,” en het mooiste moment op het album, “Return of the She-King.” Met zijn verassend uniforme ritmische paletten, zal Anastasis oudere fans waarschijnlijk tevredenstellen, zoals de bedoeling was, in plaats van veel nieuwe fans vergaren.
