Shallipopi
Shallipopi is a Nigerian singer and rapper whose distinctive, slang-heavy take on Afrobeats made him a breakout star in 2023. After going viral with his single "Elon Musk," he notched two consecutive chart-topping albums, starting with Presido La Pluto and followed in 2024 by Shakespopi.
A native of Edo State's capital, Benin City, Crown Uzama took on the name Shallipopi when he began releasing music on social media in the early 2020s. He found some early success with 2021's "Gra Gra," but it was his 2023 tribute to eccentric billionaire Elon Musk that earned him breakout status. Over taut Afrobeats rhythms, Shallipopi's relaxed cadence and self-described "Pluto-slang" helped make "Elon Musk" a big hit, anchoring his debut EP, Pluto Planet, which was released in July 2023. After signing with Dvpper Music, he released his debut full-length, Presidio La Pluto, in November and it topped Nigeria's TurnTable chart. He proved to be a prolific artist and carried his momentum into the next year with the April 2024 release of the follow-up, Shakespopi, his second number one album.
