The Cuban Cowboys
Mixing elements of the Pixies, Tom Waits, Los Lobos, and the Buena Vista Social Club into a potent blend of alternative Latin surf rock, Brooklyn's Cuban Cowboys were formed in 2000 by singer, guitarist, and Miami native Jorge Navarro (aka Hialeah Jorge), guitarist Luca Benedetti, bassist Madelyn Burgess, and drummer Kid Chocolat (since replaced by Chulito del Fuego). Immensely popular in the New York clubs, the Cowboys contributed songs to the soundtrack of the independent film Lucha Libre, which featured a score by bandmember Benedetti.
