Oliver Schnyder Trio

The Oliver Schnyder Trio has made major recordings of core 19th century repertory since its formation in 2012. The trio is led by Swiss pianist Schnyder, who was born in 1973 in Brugg. Schnyder first earned a music education degree from the Swiss Music Pedagogic Association in 1994. He then switched to piano performance and was awarded a solo diploma from the Zurich University of the Arts in 1998. Schnyder moved to the U.S. for further studies with Ruth Laredo at the Manhattan School of Music and with Leon Fleisher. He has given solo recitals and performed concertos in many of the world's top concert halls, including those in Taipei, Taiwan, and Seoul, South Korea. In Switzerland he was a founder of Piano District, which has sought to bring classical music performances to disused industrial sites in the canton of Aargau. The Oliver Schnyder Trio, which has sometimes gone by the name of the Schnyder Trio, was formed in 2012 and made its debut that year with a concert at the Zurich Tonhalle. The group has recorded for major labels; it was signed to RCA Red Seal shortly after its formation and in 2013 issued an album of Schubert's piano trios. This was hailed by Switzerland's Aargauer Zeitung as Switzerland's Classical Album of the Year, and as a "new benchmark" by the magazine Die Bühne. A follow-up album of Brahms trios won similar acclaim. The Oliver Schnyder Trio has also been active in the unusual role of accompanimental group: it has made two recordings with German tenor Daniel Behle: Winterreisen (selected by Opernwelt as CD of the Month, and featuring an unusual voice-and-piano version of Schubert's song cycle), and, in 2017, Mein Hamburg. The Oliver Schnyder Trio has made annual tours of the Far East as well as of Swiss and German venues, and has teamed in concert with Behle and with violinist Vilde Frang, among others.
