Irene Farrera

Venezuelan-born singer/songwriter/guitarist Irene Farrera blends her Latin American heritage with the energy of her adopted home, the Northwest of the United States. As a child growing up in Caracas and Valencia, Farrera developed her musical skills, playing the cuatro when she was 9 and classical guitar at 11. She brought pride for her heritage with her when she moved to the US over two decades ago, and began performing music from all over Latin America as well as her homeland. Her repertoire included Mexican rancheras, Venezuelan joropos, and songs by great Latino songwriters like Brazil's Tom Jobim, Argentina's Carlos Gardel and Cuba's Silvio Rodriguez. From the beginning, Farrera's inclusive interpretation of Latin American music was embraced by like-minded musicians such as Charlie Byrd, for whom Farrera opened as one of her first professional gigs. After making her recorded debut in 1995 with Alma Latina and releasing two albums on her own imprint, Farrera released her fourth album Soy De Ti on Lektronic Soundscape in 1999.
