Green City

An aggressive hip-hop group hailing from Killeen, TX, Green City caught the attention of the legendary Scarface thanks to a gym in Houston. It was there that the former Geto Boy approached some boxers who were working out to a Green City mixtape. He was surprised he had never heard of this crew who blended the styles of Paul Wall, UGK, and Scarface himself, and he certainly couldn't believe they didn't have a record deal. Having just launched his Underground Railroad imprint with the group the Product, Scarface made Green City the second act signed to the label and sent them into the studio with Mannie Fresh and producer the Champ to record their first single, "Like a Porn Star." An edited version of the track called "Party Like a Rockstar" was sent to radio and soon members Spark Dawg, Mike Hee, Yung Texxus, MJ, J. Scott, Big Spade, and G-Ni were hearing themselves get multiple plays on Houston's influential radio station Z-92.3 FM. Big Spade only got to record two tracks for the group's debut before a parole violation landed him behind bars, but under the guidance of producer Noki Swazay, Green City were able to finish the album in time for its June 2008 street date. Brand New Money arrived with a new single, "Do It Like I Done It," promoting its release.
