Vina Panduwinata
Indonesian pop singer and songwriter Vina Panduwinata was born in Bogor, West Java on August 6, 1959. The eighth of ten children, her father was a diplomat who was stationed in India but relocated with his family to West Germany in 1975. While living there, Panduwinata released her debut single, “Java”, in 1978. She returned to Indonesia in 1979 and released her first Indonesian album, Citra Biru, in September 1981. Her second album, Citra Pesona, was issued in 1982. In 1985, she released two songs that defined her career: “Kumpul Bocah” (which is considered her signature song) and the award-winning “Burung Camar”, which Rolling Stone Indonesia named the 28th best Indonesian song of all time. Further albums included Cinta (1985), Wow Kring-Kring (1989), Bawa Daku (2001), and For Children (2002). She’s released several compilations over the years including Vina Terbaik 1981-2006.
