The Treasures of Mexico
One of several different side projects that emerged following the breakup of Medway indie pop heroes the Dentists, the Treasures of Mexico issued a pair of albums in the latter half of the 2010s that bore a familiarly appealing and melodic jangle pop sound.
Former Dentists Mark Matthews and Bob Collins have a rich history together, including collaborative projects like Coax, Fortress Madonna, and the Great Lines along with their own individual endeavors. Following the breakup of one of Matthews' bands, the Echo Heights, he reached out to Collins and another frequent collaborator, drummer Russ Baxter, to help him record a new batch of solo songs he'd written. This new trio, the Treasures of Mexico, issued their debut album, Holding Pattern, in 2015 on the Shelflife label. Not long after, Collins delivered a collection of his own songs as Bob Collins and the Full Nelson. Regrouping as the Treasures of Mexico, the band returned in 2018 with their follow-up LP, Everything Sparks Joy.
