The Black Swan Effect

A collaboration between Reef drummer Dominic Greensmith and singer/songwriter Gareth Hale, England's Black Swan Effect specialize in nervy and expressive, shape-shifting alt-rock in the vein of acts like Radiohead, Jeff Buckley, Kings of Leon, and Alt-J. Longtime friends, Greensmith and Hale had played together 15 years prior to to the group's inception, with Greensmith going on to share the stage with the likes of Peter Gabriel, Mick Jones, and Ray Davies, and Hale opting for a career outside of music. The two reconvened in 2012 after Greensmith's director wife asked them to compose music for a documentary, and after a short period of time, it became clear that there was more material being created than was needed. The newly minted band, which by this time also included Jesse Wood and John Hogg, eventually inked a deal with Gabriel's Real World Records on the strength of their "Society of Sound" subscription series, and released their debut album, Admission, in 2013.
