Simu Liu

Best known for his work in television and film, Canadian actor Simu Liu is also a pop singer with a penchant for inspirational ballads. After racking up mainstream film credits including the starring role in Marvel's Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, Liu launched his music career in 2023 with the EP Anxious-Avoidant. Born in China, Liu's family emigrated to Canada when he was five. Growing up in Mississauga, Ontario, he was pressured to excel academically and after graduating college worked in accounting until 2012. After being laid off, he began to pursue his burgeoning passion for acting and initially found work as an extra and occasionally as a stuntman. After appearing as an extra in films like Pacific Rim (2013) and Beauty and the Beast (2014), Liu found steadier work in television, becoming a series regular on the CBC sitcom Kim's Convenience and a recurring character on the NBC series Taken. His biggest break in film came when he joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe, playing the lead role in 2021's Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. In 2023, Liu released "Don't," his debut single as a pop singer. The ballad appeared on his first EP, Anxious-Avoidant, which also included a song, "Break My Heart," co-written with Joe Jonas.
