Mariah
Idioma disponible: inglésMariah is a Miami-born reggaetonero, trap, and R&B singer of Puerto Rican and Cuban descent. Discovered by multi-platinum producer Nely (aka "El Arma Secreta"), she is credited with helping to restore the powerful swagger of vintage female reggaeton in the vein of her idol Ivy Queen and is credited by the media as the voice of a new generation of Latin artists in the United States. She has performed at SXSW and the famed Calle 8 Festival, and on recordings with Nicky Jam, Myke Towers, and Casper Magico. Her 2019 Universal Latino debut single, "Perreito," racked up more than a million streams during its first week, while its video notched millions of views in a couple of months. Mariah was born Mariah Angeliq in Miami. Her mother named her after Mariah Carey, the younger Mariah's first musical idol (based on her singing, not her name). Her first language is Spanish. She didn’t speak English until she was three. She grew up listening to R&B, old-school hip-hop, and Latin pop music from reggaeton to Marc Anthony. Strangely, she didn't know she had a singer's vocal qualities, though all she ever wanted to do was make music. It was in a recording studio cutting trap beats to her raps when she was 15, where she discovered she could sing. From then on, she worked at becoming a singer, learning to deliver R&B convincingly in English. She met Nely and his brother Misael De La Cruz, and they suggested she sing in Spanish. At 18, Mariah cut a pair of reggaeton-cum-trap jams produced by Nely -- "Blah" and "Malo" -- as videos. The former took off and drew attention from a number of record labels. She began performing the club and festival circuits almost immediately. After signing to Universal in January of 2019, Mariah was invited to SXSW and the Calle 8 Festival, and in June released her label debut single "Perreito." It charted in 14 countries, and by September had registered more than 16 million unique audio streams with its video racking up 11 million views.
