Jonathan Ogden

Jonathan Ogden's lush pop songs are, as he describes them, "prayers set to music," combining an exploration of Christian faith with a dreamy bedroom sound that incorporates subtle hip-hop and electronic influences. Based in the Manchester area in North West England, Ogden started the worship band Rivers & Robots in 2010 and recorded five albums with them throughout the decade. Starting in 2016, he also issued several solo EPs, followed by a beat tape entitled Twenty Four (2020). As Rivers & Robots went on hiatus in early 2021, Ogden quickly released another EP, Songs from Home. He presented his debut album, Future Forever, in 2022, followed by an EP called Take Me Back in December 2023.Ogden started Rivers & Robots in Salford, a city in Greater Manchester, in 2010, when he was 17. Initially conceived as a solo project to pursue his interest in Christian worship music, it quickly evolved into a full-fledged four-piece band. Their debut album, The Great Light, was released in 2011, followed by Take Everything (2012), a self-titled EP (2013), and their third album, All Things New (2014). Going through some lineup changes, the group soon presented their next albums, The Eternal Son (2016) and Discovery (2018) -- with Ogden not just handling vocals, several instruments, songwriting, and production, but also the design.Even while Rivers & Robots was looking for new musicians, however, Ogden began releasing solo material under his own name, starting with the EP By the Streams in January 2016, which was followed by the season-themed quartet of Winter, Spring, Summer, and Autumn, released between February 2017 and January 2018. In 2019, Ogden issued two new solo singles, "Something Real" and "Slow Down," and in January 2020, he presented the beat tape Twenty Four, whose 24 tracks correspond to the 24 hours of the day. Later that year, he released the solo songs "Laid Down Lover" and "Always on My Mind," a collaboration with Joe Bae.As Rivers & Robots officially announced a hiatus at the beginning of 2021, Ogden further pursued his solo career. He released the EP Songs from Home in April 2021, followed by his first full-fledged album, Future Forever, in October 2022. In December 2023, he presented an EP of stripped-back songs called Take Me Back.
