Jake Troth

A pop tunesmith with an innate knack for delivering deceptively simple melodies and concepts, Jake Troth first wrote and produced for stars like Kehlani, Big Boi, Lizzo, and Sia in the mid-2010s before his own career as folk-pop singer/songwriter began to take off. Signing with Atlantic, he released his Dave Cobb-produced debut, It Is as If, in 2019. A native of Davidson, North Carolina, Troth spent several years studying fashion at Savannah College of Art and Design before music became his primary focus. While releasing the occasional independent EP, he began to find success as an industry producer and songwriter in Los Angeles. Although his own work was generally geared toward smart guitar pop, his versatility as a writer allowed him to flourish among mainstream pop and urban artists. In 2013, he co-wrote and produced Big Boi's "Apple of My Eye" and later joined the rapper on Late Night with David Letterman to perform the song. Within a couple of years, he'd signed with Atlantic and released several solo singles and a short film called Double Black Diamond, though the bulk of his success as a collaborator was still in the future. High-profile tracks for Kehlani, Lizzo, and Kevin Gates followed before Troth finally put the finishing touches on his major-label debut. Recorded in Nashville with producer Dave Cobb, It Is as If was released in late 2019 and focused on tasteful, stripped-down folk-pop songwriting with a warmly romantic bent.
