Canadian singer/songwriter JESSIA addresses issues such as mental health and self-acceptance in her brash, unapologetic pop songs. After guesting on EDM tracks by several producers during the late 2010s, she broke through in 2021 with "I'm Not Pretty," an ode to body positivity that became an instant viral hit. Born Jessika Harling, the Vancouver-based singer was featured on several tracks by future bass producers such as EQRIC and KENO throughout 2018 and 2019. She began releasing more confessional, guitar-driven solo singles in 2020, including "Conviction" and "Really Nice to Think About." Documenting the recording process on their TikTok feeds in real time, JESSIA and producer Elijah Woods created "I'm Not Pretty" within 72 hours at the beginning of 2021. The self-released track immediately caught on as a Gen Z body positivity anthem, racking up millions of streams. She followed up on the song's success later that year with the singles "I Should Quit" and "First Call."
