The third solo album of Danilo Caymmi (son of Dorival Caymmi) brings originals, old classics by Dorival and Tom Jobim, and songs by new composers. A grateful revelation is a beautiful samba enredo "Samba de Enredo" by Lisa Ono (with lyrics by the renowned sambista Paulo César Pinheiro), a young Brazilian daughter of Japanese origin who has having a noted career as a bossa nova singer. "Pecado Brasileiro" (Danilo Caymmi/Dudu Falcão) is an exciting samba; "Juras" (Rosa Passos/Fernando de Oliveira) is a romantic samba-canção; "Tanta Saudade" (Djavan/Chico Buarque) is an energetic, percussive hybrid of Cuban salsa. Danilo has explored carefully his sexy image in an accordingly romantic repertory (he learned that through his father's advice, when asked whether he should sing or not -- "My son, do sing, but sing for the women"), but the high level of his standards have been keeping his material interesting and dynamic. The creative recreations for Caymmi's songs bring welcomed additions for their imagery, while Jobim's "Samba do Avião" is quite literal. The album brings some pop ballads with saxophone clichés which happily don't threaten the whole.
