The Vegetable Plot
First sprouting at the 2014 Sydney Fringe, where they won the award for Best Children's Show, roots-music-inspired Aussie band The Vegetable Plot has grown into that rare thing: a “kids band” that adults enjoy listening to just as much as the kids.
Created by songwriter/comedian/Dad Luke Escombe (aka Aspara Gus) in 2014, the original line-up of the band featured the voices of ARIA-winning folk group All our Exes Live in Texas along with an assortment of other musicians and singers from the Sydney blues and roots scene.
After years of touring Australia in a slimmed down trio format, The Vegetable Plot signed with ABC Kids in 2019 for the release of their second album, Season Two. The album included the single "Waiting for a Bus", a winner in the children's category of the 2019 International Songwriting Award, and was nominated for an ARIA Award for “Best Children's Album”.
The Vegetable Plot had a tragic start to 2023, with producer and band member Michael McGlynn passing away suddenly just as he and Luke were about to start work on Season 3. Recording on the band's third album finally began in earnest at Sydney’s Church Street Studios in October 2023, with Emmy award-winning producer Sean Carey joining the creative team.
The Vegetable Plot's goal is to provide a joyful, earthy and musically nutritious soundtrack for families and educators looking to inspire a healthier food culture in their homes and classrooms. As they put it, they're on a mission of "Love and Peas".
