St. Thomas Choir Of Men And Boys

The Saint Thomas Choir of Men and Boys, associated with Saint Thomas Church Fifth Avenue in New York, is an ensemble in the pure Anglican tradition, save that it is located in the U.S. and not in Britain. The choir grew partly from the Saint Thomas Choir School, founded in 1919 and the only boarding school for choristers in the U.S. (there are only two others internationally). The choir's boy choristers are joined by 15 Gentlemen of the Choir, who are professional singers. The choir provides music for five weekly Saint Thomas services; these are broadcast on the Internet. It also mounts a concert series in which it is accompanied by the Orchestra of St. Luke's or the historical-performance group Concert Royal. Together and separately, the Gentlemen and the Boys have toured widely. The choir as a whole has performed at Westminster Abbey and St. Paul's Cathedral in London, King's College Cambridge, and other legendary English venues; they have also appeared at the Leipzig BachFest in Germany and at the Vatican. The Boys have performed in Bach's St. Matthew Passion under Sir Simon Rattle, with the Berlin Philharmonic, and as part of Lincoln Center's White Light Festival, and have traveled to Dresden, Germany. The choir has also performed contemporary music: projects in the mid-2010s included the premiere of Nico Muhly's My Days with the viol consort Fretwork.
