Spencer Brown
Spencer Brown, aka Spencer Bruno, is a progressive house producer and DJ based in San Francisco. With early support from the likes of Avicii and Above & Beyond, he released his 2014 debut EP with the former's label and his 2018 debut album on the latter's Anjunabeats. Known for his spontaneous DJ sets filled with favorites as well as rare and unreleased material, he has performed at several major festivals and headlined club tours around the world. Following his second album, 2020's Stream of Consciousness, he formed his own imprint, diviine, in 2022.
Bruno started drumming as a toddler, and later taught himself guitar, piano, and bass, among other instruments. He DJ'ed for the first time in the fifth grade and was soon in demand for middle-schoolers' birthday parties. As a senior in high school, he sent a track to Avicii's manager, got a response, and after developing his sound for a couple of years, he made his live debut at the Hollywood Bowl with Avicii in 2013. Avicii's Le7els Records released his Spencer Brown debut, the Chalice/Double Down EP, in 2014. Among a handful of remixes of acts including Cazzette and HNNY, his early tracks also included the self-released "Jaboom"/"Mirek" and 2015's "Lockout." Bruno graduated from Duke University in 2016, having majored in Electrical and Computer Engineering.
The Chalice EP eventually came to the attention of Above & Beyond, who signed Brown to their Anjunabeats label, which released the Downpour EP, Embarcadero EP, and Vernal EP, all in 2017. Featuring "No Going Back," a collaboration with Alpha 9, the full-length Illusion of Perfection arrived on Anjunabeats in 2018. Brown supported the album with his first headlining tour, which made stops in North America, Europe, and Australia. Collaborations with Raito, Qrion, and Ilan Bluestone materialized in 2019, with the solo album Stream of Consciousness following in January of 2020. First issued as a continuously mixed full-length, the release was then split into unmixed EPs. In 2021, Brown released the EPs I Was Too Young for 90s Raves (Factory 93 Records) and Silver Linings (Sasha's Last Night on Earth), as well as the Anjunadeep single "Blue Magic"/"Rainy April." Brown kicked off the diviine imprint with his 2022 singles "Forbidden Flow"/"18 Min Loop" and "Stuck"/"Reflex."
