Slingshot Dakota

Slingshot Dakota are a keyboard-and-drum indie rock duo from Bethlehem, Pennsylvania consisting of musical and marital partners Carly Comando and Tom Patterson. Over the course of albums like 2007's Their Dreams Are Dead, But Ours Is the Golden Ghost! and 2016's Break, they became known for their high-energy, emotive style and interweaving male/female harmonies, earning comparisons similarly outfitted duos like Matt and Kim and Mates of State, albeit with a harder edge. Comando initially formed the band in 2004 with Pat Schramm and Jeff Cunningham from the pop-punk group Latterman. Following their debut album, Keener Sighs, both Schramm and Cunningham left the group, after which Comando reworked Slingshot Dakota as a duo, with Patterson joining on drums and vocals. Their 2007 LP Their Dreams Are Dead, But Ours Is the Golden Ghost! laid out their distinctive style, which features Comando running her digital piano through myriad effects to create their powerful sound. In 2012, they made their Topshelf Recordings debut with the album Dark Hearts and continued to hone their often heavy power pop sound. Prior to the release of 2016's Break, Comando and Patterson were married, adding a new perspective to their music and creative partnership. Led by the anthemic single "Louder," Slingshot Dakota returned in 2019 with their fifth album, Heavy Banding.
