Shuman
Born in Brooklyn (New York, USA) in 1936, Mort Shuman died in London on December 2, 1991, following liver surgery, after composing - with or without his writing partner Doc Pomus - a multitude of rock classics for Dion, The Drifters or Elvis Presley, then The Hollies,The Small Faces or Janis Joplin. In 1966, he staged the highly successful musical Jacques Brel Is Alive and Living in Paris in London, introducing English audiences to the Belgian singer's work, before doing the same on Broadway two years later. In France in the 1970s, the American enjoyed success as a performer with hits such as "Le lac Majeur", "Un été de porcelaine", "Shami-sha" and "Papa Tango Charly". His fame was short-lived, however, given his immense career as a composer, who remained in the shadow of many other artists.
