Luke Hemmings

Australia's Luke Hemmings is a singer and songwriter best-known as the frontman for the pop outfit 5 Seconds of Summer. After four chart-topping albums with the group, Hemmings made his solo debut with 2021's When Facing the Things We Turn Away From. That album found him embracing a mature, alt-pop style, one he further showcased on 2024's Boy EP. Born in 1996 in Freemans Reach, New South Wales, Australia, Hemmings started playing guitar around age ten. He eventually took lessons, and by his teens he was busking on street corners and posting cover songs online. It was also while in his teens that he formed the punk-pop-influenced band 5 Seconds of Summer with schoolmates Calum Hood and Michael Clifford. The group emerged to massive success, touring with One Direction and hitting number one in several countries with their 2014 self-titled debut. More number one albums followed and by 2018 the group had matured into a sophisticated, '90s alt rock-influenced ensemble. In June 2021, Hemmings released his debut solo album, When Facing the Things We Turn Away From, which included the Sammy Witte-produced single "Starting Line." It topped the Australia ARIA Albums chart and charted on the Billboard 200. He returned in 2024 with the Boy EP, which included the shimmering and romantic alt rock single "Shakes."
