Her
The singer of The Popopopops, winner of the 2009 InRocKs Lab Award, Victor Solf, is behind Her, a sensual, uncluttered pop duo that also draws on the talent of Simon Carpentier. The former grew up between Paris and Germany, where he was born (in Düsseldorf), and listened to Frank Zappa, Can but also a lot of blues thanks to his parents. He began learning the piano at an early age. The second began with the guitar, then tried his hand at the classical saxophone. A self-proclaimed feminist to the point of compiling in one track Emma Watson's UN speech on women's rights, another by Nina Hagen revolting on a TV set about the status of women and also a comment by actress Scarlett Johansson, Her came to prominence in early 2016 with the release of its debut EP entitled Tape#1 . The duo then revealed the importance of the look in their imagery, custom-designed by a Parisian haute-couture house to recapture the spirit of 1960s soul. They soon succeeded in exporting their music across the Channel and the Atlantic, while the same year saw the release of the live version of the EP, Tape#1 Live. A second EP, in the same electro-rock vein, Tape #2, was released in April 2017, followed two months later by its live equivalent. On August 13, 2017, the duo's story changed when Simon Carpentier, aged 27, passed away after years of battling cancer.
