Beginning with M 4, Maurizio began to release records with similar characteristics, perfecting his signature style in the process. As he had done exceptionally on the previous M record, Domina, Maurizio began stripping away many of the more excessive elements of his techno, such as synthesizers and harsh percussion, in favor of a more minimal style. On the two untitled sides of M 4, the songs thump along gracefully with deep, dub-style bass beats and little else besides a few simple, little, looped riffs that phase and modulate subtly throughout the song. There are few salient characteristics, such as melodies, breakdowns, or vocals, leaving only a deep, thumping rhythm and some juxtaposing high-pitched sounds sprinkled on top. The repetitive nature also makes the record even more hypnotic by seeming almost monotonous to casual listeners, but it is found to be loaded with small fluctuations upon closer listening.
