Those looking for a high-octane dose of hardcore in 2002 need look no further than LIVE FOR TODAY, a brief offering from hard-hitting quintet Boysetsfire. Split between three studio cuts and an equal number of live songs from an early 2002 club show in South Amboy, New Jersey, this EP is full of unbridled intensity. Riding the interwoven leads of guitarists Josh Latshaw and Chad Istvan, the class-bashing anthem "Release The Dogs" opens the proceedings. From here, vocalist Nathan Gray sets the tone with his soaring delivery, singing about the price of fame ("Curtain Call") and ranting about organized religion ("Pathory's Sainthood"). Not surprisingly, these in-concert cuts are equally molten and include mosh-worthy smart bombs "After The Eulogy," "Rookie," and "Handful Of Redemption." LIVE FOR TODAY offers plenty of hope for the future of hardcore.
