Exotica is a dark and mysterious film from Canada. Mychael Danna composed the soundtrack. It is electronic ambience with ethnic and Middle Eastern overtones and organic textures -- a nice hybrid of world fusion and ambient styles, but not a great hybrid. Some of the Indian influences come across as contrived, as if Danna put them there just for show. This disc is in the middle; it builds upon old Hindu folk tunes and simply does not reach the heights to which it aspires.
