Hard on the heels of Amanké Dionti, his project with Ablaye Cissoko, Volker Goetze's new album is a celebration of exchanges between different continents and different sounds. With the well-named Bridges, the German trumpeter builds some sturdy bridges in the company of Ablaye Cissoko, Richie Barshay, Oran Etkin, Kristjan Randalu and several others. From West Africa to New York via Europe, this is an experience of pluralist jazz which is inspired, under the leadership of Cissoko's virtuoso kora performance, and the warm timbres of Goetze's trumpet playing, whose original compositions are firmly rooted in both the West African tradition and the contemporary jazz scene of the Big Apple. © CM/Qobuz
