Founded in Munich in 1969, ECM is one of the rare labels that still pursues an authentic editorial policy. Manfred Eicher, the rarely-interviewed founder and boss of the Munich publisher, is the backbone of the label’s musical philosophy, as well as its application. Initially dedicated solely to jazz, it quickly established itself as a unique record company, inspired by committed (and often bold) artistic direction, hosting musicians such as Keith Jarrett, Chick Corea, Paul Bley, Jack DeJohnette, Jan Garbarek, John Surman, Pat Metheny, John Abercrombie, Ralph Towner, Terje Rypdal, Gary Burton, Paul Motian, Jon Christensen, Charlie Haden, Dave Holland and many more.
