About Playlist
A major player in the development and role of the double bass in the 1960s, Gary Peacock has always been particularly attached to the melodic framework of his music. The musician, who died on the 5th of September 2020, continued to display his musical prowess with his latest album Tangents, released on ECM in 2017. Born in Idaho in 1935, Peacock has played alongside the greatest revolutionaries in the history of jazz such as Miles Davis, Bill Evans, Albert Ayler, George Russell, Paul Bley and of course Keith Jarrett with whom he would form the famous trio with Jack DeJohnette in 1983. When he wasn’t working for big names like Marc Copland, Bill Frisell, Lee Konitz, Ralph Towner or Marilyn Crispell, Gary Peacock released numerous successful records under his name.
