Fin Greenall a.k.a. Fink is no stranger to reincarnation. At 45 years old, this striking bearded chameleon, able to switch from electro to folk with incredible ease, released at the start of 2017 a… blues album! With Fink’s Sunday Night Blues Club, Vol. 1, the British musician who has exiled in Berlin for the last few years, avoided all the clichés of the genre while conveying so much. That’s the strength of this unique and contemporary blues album nicely produced by Flood. As in a waking dream the ghosts of John Lee Hooker and Lightnin’ Hopkins were within reach but never did Fink even consider aping these legends… A few months later, with Resurgam, the British musicians went back to basics. More precisely, to this pulsating and repetitive folk crossed with soul music. Like it’s been numbed and turned upside down by the blues sidestep at the start of the year. It’s worth noting that the title, Resurgam − meaning resuscitate in Latin − draws from an inscription found in a chapel in Cornwall, where Fink is from, and that perfectly sums up the spirit behind his songs, once again produced by Flood. © MZ/Qobuz
