A brief glimpse inside the Flicknife label archive that, though it makes a good job of arranging its contents in chronological order, fails via the sheer haphazard nature of those contents. Opening with the 1969-70 era "Hurry On Sundown"/"Sweet Mistress of Pain," before leaping to 1975 for alternate takes on "Kings of Speed" and "Motorhead," this most deceptively titled package then bogs itself down in the band's most half-hearted flirtation with Dungeons and Dragons culture, before wrapping up with another go-round for the 1978-era Hawklords live material.
As with so many other aspects of the Hawkwind catalog, there's a serious need for all of this material to be correctly cataloged, annotated, and then released in coherent form. Dave Brock's own Weird Tapes and Collectors Series releases have made a start on this task, and inquiring minds are best advised to wait for him to address the issue before taking the plunge into any of the many compilations.
