Willie Hutch's debut effort for producer Norman Whitfield's eponymous label is an unabashedly naked bid to return the artist to commercial relevance, updating his trademark mellow grooves with an ill-fitting disco-inspired sheen. Unlike many of his contemporaries given a similar makeover, Hutch survives with most of his dignity intact. His impassioned tenor wraps comfortably around up-tempo material like the opener, "And All Hell Broke Loose," but it's the softer, slower cuts like "Paradise" and "Anything Is Possible If You Believe in Love" that stand out. Gene Page's slick arrangements have dated badly, however, and the melodies are rote at best.
