B.B. Seaton began his career as a solo artist, debuting on disc in 1960, before joining forces with Winston Delano Stewart as the duo Winston & Bibbi. When Maurice Roberts joined the pair in 1963, the Gaylads were born, although it was almost a still-birth, as Seaton wandered off with the Astronauts for a stream of singles in the mid-'60s. Returning to the Gaylads at the tail-end of the ska era, the trio's singles began soaring into the charts. So high was their profile by the early reggae age, that even after Stewart departed in the late '60s, the duo effortlessly continued notching up hits. In 1972, however, Seaton left the Gaylads behind to re-launch his solo career, opening his account with the smash single "Accept My Apology." In its wake followed a stream of popular cover songs -- "Sweet Caroline," "Lean on Me," and "Thin Line Between Love and Hate," alongside such original numbers as "Miss My Schooldays," the latter three 45s all flying up the Jamaican chart in 1972. Greatest Hits rounds up all these early hits as well as a slew that arrived later in the decade, including the sumptuous "My Jamaican Girl" and "Rainbow Love." Songs like the bubbly but soulful, "My Love," the aching "No Good Girl," and a fabulous cover of "I'm Aware of Love" are amongst the many other highlights here. However, these Greatest Hits represent only one half of the Seaton story, his romantic side, totally ignoring the singer's equally strong cultural half. The Soul Beat label bundled those hits onto a separate best-of compilation, Rootically Yours, then brought both facets of the artist together on the definitive two-CD collection The Anthology 1972-1989, pretty much making this single disc set superfluous.
