The first orchestral recording of Jacqueline du Pré (from 1965) was also the premiere on record of Frederick Delius’ ethereal cello concerto. A memorable performance still regarded as the summit of the discography. It is coupled with the tone poem A Song Before Sunrise (a true orchestral splendor), and Songs of Farewell, a cycle of compositions for double chorus after Walt Whitman’s famous Leaves of Grass. © Warner Classics
