It is hard to listen to Another Age without thinking of The War On Drugs. Much like Adam Granduciel’s band, Robert Earl Thomas seems to have a particular affection for classic rock from the 80s. The ghosts of Bruce Springsteen, Tom Petty and Mark Knopfler fly through his album Another Age. Except Thomas applies various quirky filters to his ideas. Unlike his illustrious predecessors, his songs have a dreamlike nature to them. Robert Earl Thomas also displays a very unique delicacy. Another Age isn’t his first feat, he already offered his services as a guitarist to various bands (Widowspeak, Vensaire). But the maturity in his own personal songs, in their interpretation and production, reveal an author of the highest calibre. A beautiful discovery. © Max Dembo/Qobuz
