Down by Law kick off All Scratched Up with the killer one-two punch of "Independence Day" and "Cheap Thrill," and the intensity rarely falters from there. Most of All Scratched Up positively vibrates with a jittery energy and infectious sing-along chants. Bandleader Dave Smalley sounds more like a wisened punk rock veteran than ever before, delivering his manifestos with gruff charm and breathless abandon on fantastic cuts like "Giving It All Away." Down by Law shine brightest when they play fast, short, catchy punk rock tunes, and this album is loaded with them.
