The Concerti Grossi Op.6 series, Arcangelo Corelli's last publicly accessible work, published a year after his death in 1713, brings three solo instruments (two violins and a cello) together with a chamber orchestra. The concerto in C minor, the third in the cycle, reaches a level of refinement worthy of the Italian composer's best mature works. It is presented here by conductor Ottavio Dantone at the head of the Accademia Bizantina ensemble at the peak of his powers. The impeccable audio recording does due justice to all the intricacies, sculpting the various musical outbursts in an elegant relief. The moods created by each movement offer a splendid array of colours, culminating in the 4th movement "Vivace". This recording, released by Hdb Sonus, heralds a fine series of recordings devoted to Corelli, which we hope will be just as flavourful.© Pierre Lamy/Qobuz
