Caroline Loeb
As a singer, the French artist Caroline Loeb is best known for her mid-1980s pop song "C'est la ouate," which reached the Top 5 in France, Italy, Spain, Germany, and Argentina between 1986 and 1987. She was born three decades earlier on October 5, 1955, in Neuilly-sur-Seine, France. Although largely on the outskirts of Paris, she also spent part of her childhood in New York City. Her younger brother, Martin Loeb, became an actor during the 1970s, and Caroline joined him in the endeavor, making her debut in 1973's La Maman et la Putain. She had appeared in six additional films by the time she made her debut as a pop artist with 1983's Piranana. Released by ZE Records, the album didn't just introduce Loeb as a singer; it also showcased her talents as a writer, with Loeb penning the record's lyrics. Teaming up with Pierre Grillet, she also wrote lyrics to the 1986 single "C'est la ouate," which reached Number 5 on France's SNEP Singles Chart, as well as Number 10 in Argentina, Number 10 in Germany, Number 3 in Italy, and Number 3 in Spain. The song also appeared on her second solo album, Loeb. Another song from the same album, "À quoi tu penses?," also became an international hit, reaching Number 27 in Italy and Number 67 in Germany. Taking an extended hiatus from her music career, Loeb focused on theater pursuits and the occasional acting role for the next two decades, then released the album Crime parfait in 2007. Another album, Comme Sagan, arrived in 2019. Three years later, she received a gold certification for her 1983 debut record, Piranana.
