Klô Pelgag
Klô Pelgag is a French-Canadian art pop singer/songwriter whose poetic lyrics are both dark and whimsical, and are matched by elaborate, orchestral arrangements. Since the release of her 2013 debut album, L'Alchimie des monstres, she has been massively successful, winning numerous awards throughout Francophone countries and touring internationally. Her most ambitious and personal album to date, Notre-Dame-des-Sept-Douleurs, appeared in 2020.
Chloé Pelletier-Gagnon was born in Sainte-Anne-des-Monts, Quebec, in 1990. Inspired by visual art, literature, and theater, as well as musicians such as Gilles Vigneault and Jacques Brel, she started composing music as a teenager. She began performing under the stage name Klô Pelgag in 2009, and won several competitions before her debut release, the four-song EP, appeared in 2012. L'Alchimie des monstres, her first full-length, arrived in 2013, and immediately made an impression on the French-Canadian music scene. Pelgag won the Félix Award for New Artist of the Year in 2014, and later in the year, she won the Breakout Award at the Francophone SOCAN Awards. Her debut album was additionally nominated for Francophone Album of the Year at the 2015 Juno Awards. Second full-length L'Étoile thoracique appeared in 2016, and she undertook an exhausting international tour in support of the album, after which she took a break in order to help control her anxiety.
She won four Félix Awards in 2017, as well as the Prix Félix-Leclerc and the Prix de la chanson SOCAN. She was additionally named Female Singer of the year at the Félix Awards in 2018. Pelgag released a Christmas single, "Toute seule pour Noël," in 2019. In 2020, following the birth of her daughter and the death of her father, she released Notre-Dame-des-Sept-Douleurs, named after an island village her family would pass while traveling. Co-produced by longtime collaborator Sylvain Deschamps and arranged by Pelgag as well as Owen Pallett, the album received international acclaim, and expanded her audience outside of Francophone countries.
