JSHIN

First making a name for himself at the turn of the millennium, Liberty City R&B singer Jonathan “J-Shin” Shinhoster (born in Miami, Florida in 1978) found himself on the cusp of a breakthrough thanks to a high-profile appearance on Southern hip-hop heavyweight Trick Daddy’s “Hold On” in 1999. Inking an album deal with the Atlantic-distributed Slip-n-Slide Records shortly thereafter, he teamed up with Xscape’s LaTocha Scott on his steamy debut solo single “One Night Stand”, which made a modest impact on specialist US charts, before returning in 2000 with a loved-up debut album entitled My Soul, My Life. Stacked with collaborations including appearances from Trick Daddy, Money Mark and Mystic, the LP reached number 71 on the Billboard 200, spawning another single in “Treat U Better” and also housing the fan favourite “Givin’ U Luv”. However, with his sales and chart positions dwindling, Shinhoster soon parted ways with Slip-n-Slide, landing new contracts with various other labels in the following years. Shinhoster’s second LP, Born to Sing, arrived via Fat Fred Entertainment in 2003, failing to produce any hits. Its follow-up, the South Beat-signed 2006 album All I Got is Love, was more successful. Its lead single, a soulful collaboration with superstar T-Pain entitled “Sent Me An Email”, reached number ten on the US Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Singles Chart. Continuing to rapidly expand his oeuvre in the ensuing years, Shinhoster even dabbled in rap on the 2012 album Reborn, and has since opted to self-release much of his newer material including a series of long-players in 2020.
