Agboti Yawo Mawunam

Born on the River Zio in Havé, Togo, Agboti Yawo Mawunam discovered music as a child and was soon exercising his talents as a percussionist, performer, composer and singer. He was only 15 and still a schoolboy when he joined his first band, but it was in 1979 that he decided to go solo. He embarked on a career that would span several decades, releasing numerous EPs, including Domegnogno, Dans À Toi Ma Mère, Masubowo and Va Yesu Gbo , as well as albums whose success established him as one of Togo's most heard voices, such as Mega Vivi Noume Namo, Megba No. Nu Xamo, Davodadob and Evergreen. Among the best-known songs by this singer, who was exiled from Togo for 20 years, are "À toi ma mère", "Justice", which called for the release of Nelson Mandela, and "Ablodé gbadja". In 2019, this ambassador of Togolese music, who over the years has taken his music to many countries including Benin, Côte d'Ivoire, Burkina Faso, Ghana, France, Germany, Belgium and the USA, celebrates 40 years in the music business with a giant concert at the Palais des Congrès in Lomé.
