venbee

British singer and songwriter Venbee is known for her heartfelt, diaristic brand of drum'n'bass-infused pop. She broke through with 2022's "Low Down" and topped the U.K. Dance Singles Chart that same year with the anti-drug anthem "Messy in Heaven." She has remained a singles chart presence with 2023's Gutter" and "Die Young." Venbee was born Erin Vemby Anna Doyle in 2000 in Chatham, Kent, England. Growing up, she became interested in music watching her grandfather play piano. Her aunt also introduced her to artists like Carole King and Alanis Morissette, and she also listened to Rihanna and Adele. She started out playing the saxophone before switching to ukulele and eventually picking up the guitar and writing her own songs. After high school, she briefly studied music in college, but left early to focus on songwriting, often culling lyrics from a diary she kept all through her teens on a voice notes phone app. By 2019, she was posting tracks online, including an early version of her song "Low Down," which went viral. In April 2022, Venbee released her official version of the song, which peaked at number 59 on the U.K. Singles Chart. Another single, the anti-drug anthem "Messy in Heaven" (with Goddard) followed that September and reached number three on the same chart, then spent 15 weeks on top of the U.K. Dance Singles Chart. More Top 100 singles followed in 2023, including "Gutter" and "Die Young" (with Rudimental). Along with her solo work, Venbee is a member of the women-run Loud LDN pop musical collective, which was founded by Coupdekat and Maisi.
