The Deepshakerz

This productive Italian house duo -- who occasionally betray an Afrobeats influence -- comprise DJs and producers Mirco Sonatore and Domy Berardino, and they've amassed an extensive catalog of singles, EPs, and remixes since their late-2000s formation. The pair met while working at a radio station in the southern Italian seaport of Trani. By chance, they met again after their respective initial solo electronic efforts were issued by the same local label. This turn of events led them to work together, ultimately resulting in the Deepshakerz's debut single, "Over the Ride," being released in July 2008. While Berardino's passion lies in composing groove-based material, Sonatore has a gift for innovation and melody: a useful dynamic for a creative partnership in the tech-house sphere. Further solidifying their compatibility is their shared interest in the burgeoning Afrobeats scene, the influence of which bled into other early singles such as 2010's "Yamamba," 2011's "Jelee Homa," and a feature that same year on Stefano Ritteri's single under his Solo moniker, "Alki Bamba." February 2012 brought "Maracana" in collaboration with Roter & Lewis, the Deepshakerz debut on the U.S. label Nervous Records. They teamed up again with the German duo the following year on the Witty Tunes-released Give It Up EP. 2014 brought the formation of Deepshakerz's own label, Safe Music, its inaugural release being their single "We Are." Although the imprint continued to be a going concern for a large part of their career, it demanded most of their attention in its infancy. In its first year, Safe released material by artists such as Bruno Furlan and Dennis Ihm, and in 2016 it also provided the platform for the debut Deepshakerz's album Sensations. Later that year, the pair made another important career move after being invited on to the Defected roster. Their debut EP on the label, Keep Pumping, was the catalyst for a flurry of interest in the duo to which they responded with a distinct increase in the level of their productivity. 2017 brought no fewer than 12 EP and single releases across various labels such as Cajual Records, Deeperfect, and Street King, as well as a collection of remixes of Sensations material. In August, they made a live appearance at Defected Croatia and 2018 saw them maintain the same work rate, collaborating on recordings with the likes of Bohemien, Raf Parola, and Mikey V. 2019 brought an interesting collaboration with Martin Wilson -- a gospel-styled vocalist from Baltimore's Choir Boyz -- on the Safe single "House You Want." Another Safe Music collaboration, "No Questions" with Jako Diaz and Shyam P, appeared before the Deepshakerz released Radio Cuts, Vol.1 in 2021, also on Safe, a compilation of edits of their strongest homegrown material. They released two singles featuring the vocals of Happy Mondays' Rowetta -- "Price to Pay" and "What Ya Heard?" -- and kicked off 2022 with a reworking of their 2017 composition "Diggin' Down."
