Johnboy

Comprising Barry Stone (guitar, vocals), Tony Bice (bass, vocals) and Jason Meade (drums), US alternative rock band Johnboy formed in the early 90s and discovered a ready audience for their uncompromising, angular rock ‘n’ roll. The primary thematic at work on their 1993 Trance Syndicate Records debut album, Pistolswing, was hate and loathing - a natural antipathy towards conventional rock emanating from the studio that won them admirers in both Steve Albini and Bob Mould. Albini agreed to engineer their second album, 1994’s Claim Dedications, after seeing the group play live, while Mould offered them a prestigious support slot on Sugar’s 1993 US tour. In the meantime, magazines such as Magnet proclaimed Johnboy as one of the most exciting bands to debut in the mid-90s.
