Hesham Abdul Wahab

An award-winning playback singer, solo artist, and film composer, Hesham Abdul Wahab was born in Alappuzha, India, on October 14, 1990. Raised in Saudi Arabia, he was trained in Carnatic and Hindustani classical music at a young age, began playing piano at 11 years old, and studied audio engineering in college. He retuned to India in 2007, where he competed in the television show Idea Star Singer and worked as a playback singer for Malayalam-language films like Traffic, The Train, and Gaddama, all three of which were released in 2013. He then released his debut single as a solo act, "Meri Dua," in 2013. A full-length album, Qadam Badha, arrived two years later, featuring a blend of devotional Sufi music and world music. Produced by the Islamic superstar Sami Yusuf, Qadam Badha coincided with the release of the 2015 film Salt Mango Tree, whose soundtrack marked Hesham Abdul Wahab's debut as a music director. His work on the Salt Mango Tree soundtrack earned him a "Best Upcoming Music Composer of the Year" award from the Mirchi Music Awards South, as well the Ramu Kariat Award for "Best Singer." After composing the film score for 2017's Pretham Undu Sookshikkuka, Hesham Abdul Wahab continued to work as a vocalist, composer, and director throughout the following years, while also releasing pop singles like 2020's "Yatra," 2021's "Mounam," and the 2021 soundtrack hit "Darshana."
