Menswear's debut, Nuisance, was an energy-filled song cycle that arrived at the height of the Brit-pop movement as popularized by Blur, Oasis, Suede, and Elastica, but as witnessed by the band's lack of an immediate follow-up (and the decline of Brit-pop), Menswear soon ran out of ideas. We Love You is essentially a nine-track compilation of the band's non-LP double single, "We Love You," released in the summer of 1996, and all of the B-sides from those discs. While the title track is an excellent piece of Beatlesque pop, much of the rest of the EP is filled with bad ideas. "Crash" and "People I'm Hooch" recall the glory days of Menswear, but the three bland live tracks, which include the awful instrumental "Phat Kid Music," indicate that the band was in trouble. Subsequently, they were dropped by London, indefinitely shelving their second LP.
