In 2014, Canadian singer and multi-instrumentalist Loreena McKennitt took stock of a 30-year career dedicated first and foremost to performances of Celtic music, to which she added inspiration from her research and travels in the heart of European, African and Asian cultures on this double album consisting of a Best Of, The Journey So Far and A Midsummer Night's Tour, a live recording made in Germany in July 2012. On the first, we find her hits Bonny Portmore, which came out in 1993 on the soundtrack of Highlander 3, or The Mummers' Dance, from her album The Book of Secrets recorded at Peter Gabriel's studio in 1997, as were Marco Polo and Dante's Prayer

She also went back to the beginning of her career with Stolen Child, an excerpt from her 1985 debut album Elemental, a composition based on a poem by W. B. Yeats, whose verses she adapted from Down by the Sally Gardens on her record The Wind that Shake the Barleys. It also features three excerpts from her previously quoted classic The Visit (1991) Bonny Portmore, The Old Ways and her musical adaptation of Tennyson's famous romantic poem The Lady of Shalott. The 1990s was probably the decade when she was at the height of her powers, a thesis supported by two excerpts from the Mask and Mirror (1994): The Mystic's Dream and The Bonny Swans. Her luminous singing, her precise playing on the piano or harp, her romantic world anchored in ancient civilisations: all are supported with accuracy and elegance by the violins, cello, guitars, bouzouki, oud, flutes, bass clarinet and drums of her remarkable musicians. © Benjamin MiNiMuM/Qobuz

Bossa nova, the Eternal Wave

Since its creation in the late 1950s, Bossa-nova has become an indispensable part of Brazilian music. The style’s strong evocative power won over artists from all around the world and earned recognition for many first-rate musicians whose works are now seen as classics.

Picasso, when painting meets music

Picasso's modernist genius swiftly stretched beyond the pictorial and spread into music and dance, two art forms with which the Spanish painter always maintained a close relationship, to the point of influencing composer friends he met along the way.

Lhasa, An Unforgettable Shooting Star

With only three studio albums, one live album and three international tours, “Lhasa” de Sela still made her unique mark on contemporary popular music. “La Llorona”, “The Living Road” and “Lhasa” are all accomplished works in their own right and open the door to a strange yet familiar world, halfway between dream and reality. Full of both light and darkness, these songs are imbued with the genuine feelings of an artist whose heartfelt vocals reach out and pull the listener in, creating an intimate relationship with the audience. Looking back at the life of “Lhasa” de Sela, the makings of a legend are visible like chapters in a novel, complete with all the emotion that comes with a beautiful but heartbreaking storyline.
