The Best of Me collects nearly all of Maxi Priest's pre-1992 U.K. and U.S. singles, and results in a timeless, breezy, and thoroughly engaging album. Maxi Priest doesn't really tackle the heavy social themes that many of his reggae contemporaries do -- instead, he sings about love, life, and summertime (what, in other words, is known as "lovers rock"). Included here are nearly all of his U.K. hits, including "Strollin' On," "How Can We Ease the Pain," "Peace Throughout the World," and his cover of "Some Guys Have All the Luck," as well as his near-perfect version of Cat Stevens' "Wild World," which broke him to U.S. audiences, and his funky and immortal 1990 U.S. chart-topper "Close to You." Also included is his hit duet with Shabba Ranks, "Housecall," in which Maxi Priest, with his honey-smooth vocals, completely steals the show, as well as his minor U.S. hit "Just a Little Bit Longer." This CD was released in 1991, after the phenomenal success of "Close to You" and its album Bona Fide, therefore, later hits such as "Groovin' in the Midnight," "That Girl" (with Shaggy), and his massive duet with Roberta Flack, "Set the Night to Music," don't appear. Until a later and complete hits package is assembled, The Best of Me, which also features great pictures, song lyrics, and detailed liner notes, more than fits the bill.

Reggaeton in 10 Albums

A combination of Jamaican dancehall, American hip-hop, Caribbean rhythms and Spanish wit, reggaeton has, since its birth in the early 90s, shaken the world of pop music time and time again. From DJ Playero’s first mixtapes to Daddy Yankee’s “Barrio Fino” and Don Chezina’s “Tra-Tra-Tra, Puerto Rican musicians and their Colombian counterparts in Medellin have done their utmost to take over the world. In the last decade, they have done just that thanks to artists such as Luis Fonsi, J. Balvin and Bad Bunny. Read on for 10 of the genre’s most important albums. Reggaeton won’t be going anywhere any time soon.

Trojan: 50 Years of Digging Reggae

Once past the Bob Marley tree, many reggae fans discovered the depth and diversity of the Jamaican music forest through the compilations of Trojan Records, some of which became true Proust madeleines. For the occasion of the label's 50th birthday, Qobuz looks back over the fluctuating trajectory of the label, together with Laurence Cane-Honeysett, curator of Trojan Records and author of the book The Story of Trojan Records.

David Rodigan, the voice of reggae

For forty years, David Rodigan has been the voice of reggae on British radio. Since his early beginnings on BBC Radio London in 1978, this enthusiast has gone well beyond his function of radio presenter, as he went mixing in the clubs and festivals and became a world champion of soundclash, a Jamaican tradition that confronts DJs (the “selectors”) in a disc against disc duel, with the help of a special version of reggae classics called “dubplates”—the artist changing the lyrics to sing the praises of the selector. As he released, in early 2018 his book My Life in Reggae, David Rodigan talks with Qobuz about those secret songs, his trips to Jamaica, his frantic scene play or even his “mystical” meeting with Bob Marley.
