Altoist Oliver Lake's debut recording features him with a ten-piece unit in St. Louis. The performances are quite avant-garde, often very loose and influenced by the Art Ensemble of Chicago; Don Moye sits in on congas. In addition to Lake, other notable players include trumpeter Baikida E.J. Carroll, trombonist Joseph Bowie, and drummer Bobo Shaw. Much of this music is hit and miss, but it has its successful moments.
